Abi Babcock began her five-decade design career working for Emmy Sims, the first woman to lead a commercial design firm in Atlanta. Her classical training in business and commercial interiors, where function and aesthetics carry equal weight, continues to shape her residential work today. Early projects ranged from banks and country clubs to the film sets of the 1972 classic Deliverance, an experience that refined her eye for lighting and staging.

From 1977 to 1980, she worked with Tosh Yamashito Associates in Los Angeles, specializing in department store interiors, followed by two more years in the same field with John Roberts Associates in St. Louis.

In 1982, she founded her own firm in Boston, collaborating with high-end residential developers and pioneering a new concept: designing a fully decorated model unit within commercial projects to serve as a sales environment.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Abi focused on the restoration and renovation of luxury homes in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her commercial work during this time included the Candies store at The Westchester Mall and furnishing guest houses at the Trump National Golf Club.

While living in Madrid, she completed several renovation and decoration projects, including the honor of furnishing the Friends Room of the Reina Sofía Museum alongside renowned Spanish designer Antonio Caduceus.

Now back in the United States, Abi continues her work in residential design, interior architecture, and floral décor for special occasions.

Released in 1972 and directed by John Boorman, Deliverance is an iconic American film known for its cinematography and exploration of survival and nature. Filmed largely in rural Georgia, it became an influential work in both film and design for its raw visual storytelling and use of natural settings as a central narrative force.

The film received multiple Academy Award nominations and remains a significant example of 1970s American cinema and production design.

Habitat for Humanity Home Furnishing

Deliverance - 1972 Film Set Design

Completed in 2024, this Habitat for Humanity project involved designing and furnishing a home for a lovely deserving Ethiopian couple with 3 children.

Working entirely with donations and community fundraising, the full interior was created on a $5,000 budget. The project, carried out from October through mid-November, focused on creating a warm and functional environment.

The project commenced when a member of my church donated a house to Habitat for Humanity in honor of his wife.

This family fit Habitat’s requirements to be considered for a home: they are American citizens fitting within a low-income status, had completed community service hours & agreed to complete 200 hours of sweat equity earned by helping build their house alongside volunteers

I went to volunteer one a Saturday and found out they had absolutely nothing to put in the house. Their wish list was a sofa and 3 beds!

I raised $ 5,000.00 to completely furnish the house. Between support from my church and donations from local vendors who I work, we were able to furnish this project and provide the family with much more than their original wish list items!

This project is close to my heart because I believe that everyone deserves to live in a space where they feel comfortable.
